Down 7 pounds
Well, the end of the first week found me down 7 pounds! I must say this is going to be the easiest week and I expect far less per week. But the foundation has been laid and I am thrilled. Last night, at my weight work out session, I was pushing at least 20% more weight on all my drills, and in 3 of the stations, I was over 40% more! Amazing how good sleep, good nutrition and a good attitude make the body respond. I am so grateful that my body responds this well at 55. I am looking for a great Christmas at a great weight.

Moving Forward
I am making better choices. The packets of high protein food in the Medifast are really curbing my appetite and keeping my energy up. This is great. Other times, in loosing weight, I was grumpy and tired all the time. I am able to get to bed at a reasonable hour, and I am back to my 5:15 walks. When I hit 250, it will be run time. As it is, I have had shin splints from the weight. I now wake up and feel great falling asleep by 11. I expect to have a good report tomorrow. Looking for 5 pounds of weight loss, hopefully a bit more. Wish me luck.

Making Progress
Well, I am getting officially weighed on Friday, but my grandfather's scale from his medical practice (you know the ones with the sliding weight and lever arm) says I have lost 3 pounds to date. Not bad and the diet is not bad either. Gotta keep going. Its a new life.

Using Medifast
I have joined the Medifast program. It is mindless in that you only have to eat one normal meal a day. The supplements are actually pretty good. They have pre-packaged pouches of high protein low sodium food that you use every 2 1/2 hours or so. 5 prepackaged items then meal at night. Really tastes good. I had their mac and cheese.. yummy. Added one of my veggies to it (half cup broccoli) and it was very filling. The use of the food pouches every 2 1/2 hours really makes your appetite manageable. So far so good. I had their mac and cheese twice, a beef stew and a protein bar (lemon).
Lets see how this goes. I am encouraged!
9 pm- Just got back from Smokey Bones. Had their smoked turkey and broccoli/salad. Under 500 calories. On diet. Awesome! Good start to a good day.

The Beginning
I have decided that getting healthy will be more successful if I blog about it. If anyone does show up and comment, I want to say up front… Thank You for caring enough to read a bit about this upcoming journey.
I am overweight. I have finally come to grips with the fact that I can no longer "Out run my fork" to loose weight. The fact is, I am 55 and need to loose 55 pounds of fat. I hope that blogging about the experience, putting my feelings and struggles into words, will force me to confront the demons that have prevented me from having a healthy lifestyle. If I see the emotions and hurdles in words, I think I can confront them more effectively.
I bit about myself:
I am a 55 year old man who has lost his weight in his weight. I have had weight issues since I was a toddler. Although I could and can blame the problem at my mother's feet ;-), it is my problem now. My past diet failures have been due to a 2 to 3 week wall I hit. There seems to be a barrier at this point that allows me to fall off the wagon. I permit myself to cheat, and then I give up. I recognize this now, and will be on the lookout for it.
I hope this journey and my rants can help others, or that others experiences and suggestions will help me. Even if no one reads this, putting it "down on paper" will hopefully keep me going.
At the bottom of my daily entries, I will put down my weight and hopefully, that will be down numbers. Let's enjoy the ride to a new me.
